Ryan Gosling Ken Barbie: I’m Just Ken
Ryan Gosling and Mark Ronson, the genius behind “Barbie: The Album,” have teamed up to bring us a fresh holiday twist to the catchy “I’m Just Ken” musical number from the movie – just in time for Christmas cheer. There’s more, Ryan releasees three new versions “Merry Kristmas Barbie”, “In My Feelings Acoustic” and “Purple Disco Machine Cover” of the favorite “Barbie” classic, all bundled up in an EP titled “Ken the EP”.
On Wednesday, Gosling and Ronson released the music video for “I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie)”. The revised track a Christmas vibe, stringed instruments, a lot of bells, kettledrums added. Gosling still contributes to the composition’s toxic-masculinity tone.
The track, appropriately named “I’m Just Ken — Purple Disco Machine Remix,” has a great disco jam along with funky guitar riffs and beeping synths.
Ronson and Gosling also released an acoustic rendition of the song. “I’m Just Ken — In My Feelings Acoustic,” which uses acoustic guitars, a larger string section, a lot of reverberating vocals, and more drama than the theater departments of UCLA and USC combined.
Earlier this month, at Variety’s annual Hitmakers brunch, Gosling praised the hugely popular song “I’m Just Ken” while presenting Ronson with the Soundtrack of the Year award.
With ten nominations, “Barbie” nominated for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards and tied “Cabaret” for second place among all films in the 81-year history of the program. In addition to being nominated for Best Original Song for a Motion Picture, “I’m Just Ken” also received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling.
In an exclusive post on Instagram prior to the song’s release on Tuesday, Ronson talked about the first time he and Gosling got together to record the moving hit song and their choice to make a new, holiday-themed version.
“I’m Just Ken,” Greta Gerwig’s summertime hit, received over 100 million streams worldwide and peaked at number five on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart after its release.
On Wednesday, Ronson said. I love this song and the wonderful man who sung it, so I’m very excited about all of this. And all hail to the highest, Greta Gerwig, whose magnificent vision of a world ruled by women still found time to dedicate seven minutes to a song about all the insecure emo boys.
